Read this part first

Coverage on Peoples Feed cannot be bought. Not for money, not for advertising spend, not through an agency, not through a mutual contact, not in exchange for access, a gift, travel or hospitality. There is no rate card for editorial coverage, because editorial coverage is not a product we sell.

Submitting does not guarantee a story. Most submissions are declined. A complete, well-documented submission with a strong case is still declined if it does not clear our editorial tests.

Editorial decisions are made only by the editorial team. The commercial side of the business has no say in what we cover, does not see submissions and cannot influence an outcome. If you buy advertising from us, it changes nothing here, and we will tell you the same thing on the phone.

If, after reading that, you still think there is a story here, we genuinely want to hear from you. Send it to editorial@peoplesfeed.in.

What Peoples Feed actually covers

The unit of a Peoples Feed story is one named person and one verifiable thing they did. Politicians, diplomats, civil servants, doctors, teachers, professors, scientists, vice chancellors, school and college heads, armed forces personnel, social workers, business leaders whose decisions change employment or public infrastructure, and anyone whose work visibly changed what happens to other people.

Our ten beats are Governance and Policy, Civil Services, Diplomacy, Health and Medicine, Education and Campus, Science and Innovation, Defence and Forces, Social Impact, Business and Industry, and Honours and Recognition.

The six tests your submission has to pass

Every idea, from every source, goes through the same six gates. They are published in full in our Editorial Policy. Here is what they mean for a submission.

GateThe questionWhat passesWhat fails
ImpactDid something measurably change for other people because of what this person did?An order that moved 1,400 households onto piped water in nine months. A rule change that altered the admission path for 40,000 students.A person was appointed and has not yet done anything. A person is inspiring. A person spoke at a conference.
NameIs there a real, named, identifiable person with a correct current designation?A named officer with a district. A named professor with a university.“Our team”. “Doctors in the state”. “An NGO”.
VerbDid they do something specific, on a date, that was not true last month?Ordered. Operated. Launched. Published. Completed. Trained 900 people. Is working towards. Is passionate about. Continues to inspire.
EvidenceIs there a number, order number, citation, filing or document a reader cannot get from a press release?A gazette notification number. A DOI. The text of an award citation. A figure from an audited annual report.“Several initiatives”. “Numerous awards”. “Widely recognised”.
ReaderWho exactly should send this to somebody, and why?“Any UPSC aspirant, because this is the first published account of how a district runs this programme.”“Everyone will find it inspiring.”
SourceCan we link three or more primary documents? The order PDF. The PIB release. The award list. The journal article.A LinkedIn profile. Another news site’s story. Nothing at all.

Gate Impact is the one that decides it. If nothing changed for anybody, there is no Peoples Feed story, however distinguished the person is.

What we need from you

Send these seven things. A submission missing them takes far longer and is far more likely to be declined, because we cannot verify it.

1. The person

  • Full name, spelt as their own institution spells it.
  • Exact current designation, and the institution’s full correct name.
  • A link to the institution’s own page for that person, or the gazette notification, appointment order or official profile that confirms the designation.
  • Whether the person knows about this submission and consents to being contacted.

2. The one thing they did

  • In two sentences: what they did, and what changed for other people because of it.
  • The date it happened, or the period it ran over.
  • The place: district, city, institution, unit.

3. The numbers

  • At least one hard number, with the source that issued it. How many people, how much money, how many months, what the figure was before and what it is now.
  • Where the number comes from you rather than an external body, say so, and tell us how it was calculated.
  • Do not round for effect. We will check, and a rounded figure costs you credibility.

4. The documents

At least three primary documents, as links or attachments. Any of these count:

  • A gazette notification, a government order, a DoPT or state order, a PIB release, a Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha reply.
  • An award citation text, from padmaawards.gov.in, gallantryawards.gov.in or the awarding body itself.
  • A published paper with a DOI, or a book with an ISBN.
  • An audited annual report, an official audit, a CAG report, an RTI reply.
  • A court order or judgment.
  • The institution’s own published page, notification or minutes.

What does not count: a LinkedIn post by somebody who was not there, a Wikipedia page, a press release with no document behind it, another news site’s article, an award from a vanity awards company, or a testimonial.

5. A photograph, with its licence

  • A high-resolution photograph of the person, at least 1,200 pixels wide, in landscape where possible.
  • Who took it. The photographer’s name.
  • Under what licence we may use it. An openly licensed image with the licence named, for example Creative Commons with the version and the attribution string, or Government Open Data Licence India, or a written permission from the copyright holder saying Peoples Feed may publish it.
  • Where and when it was taken, for the caption.

We do not publish an image whose licence we cannot evidence. A photograph you found online is not a photograph you can give us.

6. A named contact

  • Your name, designation and organisation.
  • An email address and a phone number where you can be reached during working hours.
  • Your relationship to the person: are you them, their office, their institution’s communications team, an agency, or an unconnected reader.
  • The official email address of the person’s office, so that we can seek a response directly. We contact the institution ourselves. We do not rely on a third party’s assurance.

7. What you are not telling us

If there is an ongoing inquiry, an FIR, a pending case, a disputed figure or a contested claim connected to this person or this work, tell us now. We will find it. A submission that omitted it is treated as a submission that misled us, and we will not go back to that source.

What happens after you send it

StageTimeline
We acknowledge a complete submissionWithin 3 working days
We tell you whether we are taking it forwardWithin 10 working days
If we take it forward, we verify independentlyTypically 1 to 3 weeks, longer for a profile
Publication, if it is publishedWe do not commit to a date in advance

If you have not heard from us in 10 working days, the answer is no. We are a small newsroom, and we would rather be honest about that than promise a reply we cannot give. A decline is not a judgement on the person or their work. It usually means the story has no document behind it yet, or nothing has changed for anybody we can point at, or we have already covered this ground.

What we will do if we take it forward

  • We verify everything independently from primary sources. We do not take your word for a number.
  • We write to the person or their office ourselves and we may ask questions you did not expect.
  • We may find something that changes the story, including something unfavourable. We report what we find.
  • You do not get copy approval. We check specific facts with people. We do not show anyone the article before publication, and we do not accept edits to our text.
  • We choose the headline, the angle, the length and the publication date.
  • The article may be shorter, or different, from what you expected. It may be a 300-word brief rather than a profile.

What will get a submission rejected immediately

  • Any offer of payment, advertising spend, a gift, a fee, travel, hospitality or anything of value in return for coverage. We keep a record of these.
  • A request to see or approve the article before publication.
  • Fabricated documents, altered figures, or an award from a vanity awards company presented as a national honour.
  • A photograph supplied without a licence we can evidence.
  • An attempt to have a competitor, rival or opponent attacked.
  • Mass, templated emails sent to many publications at once with nothing specific in them.
  • A submission about a person under 18 in a context our rules protect.

If you want to advertise instead

That is a separate, legitimate conversation and we are glad to have it. Advertising and clearly labelled sponsored content are explained on our Advertise With Us page, and the commercial contact is connect@peoplesfeed.in. Buying advertising will not get you editorial coverage, and we will say so again in that conversation.
